Global Business (M. A.)

[Translate to English:] Application period for the winter semester 2025/26: 2 May to 15 July

If you’re seeking a career in internationally operating companies and want to solve management tasks economically and sustainably, the Master of Arts in Global Business is the perfect fit for you! This four-semester Master’s program is designed for innovative individuals who aspire to market their ideas globally and establish their own businesses. It equips students with the necessary technical, methodological, and personal skills for professional success, with a special emphasis on the retail and consumer goods industry, production, and life science.

This English-language program is tailored for those who have already completed a degree in economics or related fields and wish to broaden and deepen their competencies in Global Business and Sustainability. It prepares students for future management roles in internationally operating organizational units. Students can choose between two specializations: Global Supply Chain Management and Social Impact and Sustainability, allowing them to prepare for future tasks in a global competitive environment.

One unique feature of this Interdisciplinary Master’s Degree is its division over four semesters, offering students the flexibility to engage in other activities alongside their studies. This enables additional language courses in German and fosters intercultural competences.

With the subject areas Sustainable Business Practices and International Business Management, this program offers advanced research opportunities. It aims to develop cross-cultural management skills and prepare students for entrepreneurship in Global Business. Whether you’re interested in taking business courses, pursuing a career in business, exploring global marketing, or gaining international experience, our Global Business Master program is designed to help you succeed in the global marketplace.

Contents

The Global Business programme is a postgraduate Master's programme with a total of four semesters. The programme combines in-depth academic studies with practical examples.

The main contents of the first and second semesters are "Global Business" and "Intercultural Competences", which are complemented by voluntary language courses (German). In the third semester, depending on the previously selected focus "Supply Chain Management (SCM)" or "Social Impact and Sustainability (SUS)", the content is deepened. Upon completion of the Master's thesis, which is written in the fourth semester, students receive the academic degree "Master of Arts", which enables them to start a career in internationally active business enterprises, in self-employment or in an advanced research programme.

The individual study contents ("modules") are shown in the following overview. Details and descriptions of the individual subjects can be found in the module handbook.

Testimonials

Dara Luiza De Souza Braga, Student Global Business

“This Master's program provides a dynamic learning environment that fosters open discussions, multiple interactions and feedback, which for me, is the best part. It integrates learning through real-life business cases and guest lectures from successful leaders, broadening perspectives and increasing your self-awareness, leadership, and cross-cultural management skills. I believe this is what makes this program a nice choice for those set on developing a management career.”

Daniel Felipe Feo Garzon, Student Global Business

“The Master’s program has given me the opportunity to understand the importance of theory into practice, where you constantly create business cases and analyze decisions taken on the current market and how not to make them when you are in a leadership position. The diversity of students in our program and the teamwork allow us to understand how different cultures are and how to take decisions that are meaningful and strategic without impacting anyone in the organization. Either with or without experience, this is a master program that will enhance your skills for the future.”

  • Completion of a domestic or foreign university degree in economics with at least 210 ECTS credit points. A certificate must be submitted as proof. The Examination Committee decides on equivalence.
  • Applicants must pass an aptitude test for the master's degree course in Global Business. Details on this test are available in Appendix 2 of the Statutes for this course.

Please find details on Master application or Master Application from abroad on the pages of Service Center Study Affairs.

NOTE on 180/210  ECTS:

Can I apply even if I have obtained less than 210 ECTS (normally 180 ECTS) in my previous bachelor’s degree?

It is possible to apply for the GBU master’s degree with less than 210 ECTS; however, proof of compensation of the missing 30 ECTS has to be provided no later than the end of the application period by means of:

  • proof of practical experience outside the degree course which corresponds to the practical semester of a bachelor’s degree in economics a business-related subject in terms of content and scope,
    or
  • proof of practical or theoretical study and examinations taken at a German or foreign university in addition to the student’s first degree which corresponds in content and scope to the demands of a bachelor's degree in economics or commercial sciences.

NOTE: Please note that where documents are submitted to show evidence of practical professional experience or either practical or theoretical achievements worth 30 ECTS – in addition to a bachelor’s degree – the documents must clearly indicate that the 30 ECTS were obtain over and above the bachelor's degree programme. Confirmation can be provided by the university showing that the ECTS/internship were not counted towards the first degree. The duration of the practical professional experience gained outside the first degree should be equivalent to 20 weeks of full-time work. Furthermore, the internship reference must be submitted in officially certified form together with the other application documents.

Dubious Application Agencies

Currently, THI is receiving an increasing amount of information regarding fraudulent activities in connection with student applications to THI. Therefore, it is important for you to know the following:

  1. THI does not work with agencies. Please apply directly to THI via the Primuss application portal.
  2. THI never asks for money via agencies for application purposes.
  3. THI only sends emails from @thi.de.
  4. THI never asks for money before you receive your admission letter. If you need a VPD from uni-assist, you will have to pay a processing fee to uni-assist. However, uni-assist only checks certain documents and does not grant admission to THI.
  5. The application process is conducted in the THI Primuss portal. Only there will you be able to access your application progress.

FAQs

When can I expect to be admitted if my application is successful?

Since the Global Business study program is a restricted-admission master's program with limited study places, the admissions are usually only sent out after all applicants have been reviewed at the end of the application period. This means that you can expect to be admitted in early August or early February at the earliest.

What is the timing of the lectures during the semesters?

The lectures mainly take place on Thursdays and Fridays, currently 11 out of 13 lectures. Currently, one lecture is a block course by an American lecturer that can take place on any day of the week within a few weeks, partly also online. The elective is a lecture from other degree programs. These can also take place on any day of the week.

When does the semester start?

All important semester dates you will find via the following link (please download the pdf with the semester dates).

Can I do the course in three semesters?

The course is designed as a four-semester course, there is no shorter version. Most of the lectures of all semesters take place on Thursdays and Fridays. If the timetable allows, you can also attend more than the four lectures per semester that are planned.

Can I complete my studies more quickly?

As almost all lectures take place on Thursdays and Fridays, it will be difficult to attend additional lectures from other semesters. It is therefore unlikely that you will be able to complete your studies in less than four semesters.

Can I work while studying?

It is possible to work during the semester. The compulsory lectures mainly take place on two fixed weekdays, but block courses take place on additional days. Likewise, the electives can take place on any day of the week. Therefore, allow yourself enough flexibility with your employer. Also note the high learning load during the study.

When do I have to submit my language certificates?

You must submit the language certificate by April 12th for the summer semester or by October 29th for the winter semester.

Do I have to learn something for the aptitude test?

The aptitude test consists of uploading further documents within the application portal; there is no physical test or interview. These documents are:

  • Evidence of your knowledge in the sector due to your previous studies (transcript)
  • Proof of relevant work experience (official job references)
  • Proof of a project report/bachelor's thesis in a relevant field (cover page, summary, and table of contents)

You can find more information on this in the Statutes for Global Business in Appendix 2.

Can I apply with my GPA?

You can apply with any grade point average. Depending on your grade, you will receive a certain number of points for the aptitude test. You can find more information on this in the Statutes for Global Business in Appendix 2.

When is the application period?

The application period for the Global Business degree program for the winter semester is from May 2 to July 15 and for the summer semester from November 15 to January 15.

Can I get a double degree?

There is currently no cooperation for a double degree for the Global Business course.

Which language certificates are accepted?

Here is an overview of the accepted language tests: Link

I studied XYZ, can I apply for Global Business?

Admission requirement is proof of a successful degree at a German university with at least 210 ECTS credit points or equivalent study size in the field of business, commerce-oriented or a related field, or an equivalent successful domestic or foreign degree. Whether you meet the eligibility requirements for the desired degree program can only be determined as part of the application process based on the documents you submitted. Unfortunately, therefore, no statement can be made in advance as to whether you meet the requirements for study with your previous education or not. However, you can find out about the qualification requirements for your degree program in the study and examination regulations (SPO): Link.

My bachelor's degree was entirely in English, do I still have to provide an English language certificate?

An English degree course is sufficient. Please upload proof to the application portal that shows that the language of instruction and examinations for all courses was English. Here is an overview of the accepted language tests: Link

Due to visa problems I can only be in Ingolstadt after the semester has started, what are the consequences?

It is possible to arrive late, but you must still enrol on time (no later than four weeks after the start of the semester). You are responsible for catching up on missed lectures. However, we would like to expressly point out that your obligations associated with your studies remain unaffected by this. This applies in particular to examination deadlines, which are not interrupted by this.

Can I use the Preliminary Examination Document (VPD) from another university (international students)?

No, the preliminary examination document (VPD) must be issued for the “Master Check” of the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt.
