Green Engineering (M. Eng.)

Experts for the Green Deal

How do you design products for a climate-neutral industry?

The part-time Master’s programme in Green Engineering equips you to take on roles of responsibility in the context of the sustainable transformation of industry and mechanical engineering. Against the backdrop of climate change, resource scarcity and the objectives of the European Green Deal, the programme provides in-depth knowledge of energy efficiency, resource-efficient product development and holistic life-cycle assessments. You will learn to design technical systems in such a way that they require less energy, use materials more efficiently and can be managed within circular systems.

Key topics include renewable energy generation, storage and recovery; energy-optimised production processes and systems; sustainable materials; circular value creation; and methods for the environmental assessment of capital goods.

This Master’s programme opens up excellent career prospects, as companies are urgently seeking specialists who combine technical expertise with sustainability skills, thereby enabling a climate-neutral industry.

Admission and application

Admission requirements

  • Proof of successful completion of a technical degree in the fields of mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, automotive engineering, electrical engineering or comparable disciplines at a German university with at least 210 ECTS credit points or equivalent or an equivalent successful domestic or foreign degree and
  • proof of at least one year of relevant, qualified professional experience after completing the university degree programme
  • Admission option for a university degree with fewer than 210 ECTS credit points: If you have a university degree with fewer than 210 ECTS credits or your degree with fewer than 210 ECTS credits is recognised, there is the option of crediting up to 30 ECTS credits from qualified professional experience.

University entrance qualification obtained abroad

If the higher education entrance qualification was obtained abroad, a preliminary examination of the higher education entrance qualification by uni-assist is required.

Please note that it may take 4 to 6 weeks for uni-assist to process your application.

You can find further information on applying to university from abroad on the website Applying to university from abroad.

Counselling and application

For individual counselling before and during the application phase, please get in touch with your contact person. You will find the relevant contact details on this page.

Applications for this degree programme are made online.

Target group

The degree programme is aimed at:

  • People with a degree in a technical degree programme (mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, automotive engineering, electrical engineering) who would like to make a contribution to tackling the climate crisis in their professional environment
  • People who want to take responsibility for a product, its development and its life cycle in a technical environment
  • People who pursue the optimisation of the energy and sustainability concept in manufacturing companies
  • People who want to develop new technologies to avoid emissions
Job profiles

Graduates of the degree programme are primarily prepared to take on specialist and
management tasks in the following areas:

  • Planning, development and implementation of technical products (capital goods) and facilities with regard to energy and resource efficiency and the circular economy
  • Planning, operation and optimisation of systems for the generation, storage and use of renewable forms of energy
  • Planning, operation and optimisation of plants for new technologies (hydrogen technology, CCS, CCU)

The future fields of activity of graduates are focussed on the following
sectors:

  • Manufacturing companies, both with regard to the means of production they use themselves and with regard to the products produced and placed on the market in the sense of capital goods
  • Companies that develop, produce, sell or operate machines and systems for energy generation or energy conversion
Accreditation

You can find the accreditation status or the accreditation certificate on the website for quality management.
