Light system
Different lighting conditions, such as sunrise or glare from oncoming traffic, can significantly impair the functionality of driving, assistance, and safety systems in vehicles. Optical sensors, such as camera or Lidar, are particularly sensitive to unfavourable lighting conditions or overexposure at tunnel exits. This can lead to system failures or faulty detections. Overexposed camera images increase the risk of accidents, for example, as objects such as pedestrians may be detected incorrectly or not at all.
The sunlight simulator enables the reproducible reproduction of glare and interference effects in the visible spectrum and offers various modes to recreate colour temperatures from sunrise to sunset as well as variable intensities. A special feature is the high-power mode, which generates extremely bright light. This allows systems to be tested under realistic conditions.
The sunlight simulator was developed in cooperation with Vision Devices GmbH and Kredig GmbH. The test system can be combined with other test equipment, such as the indoor positioning system for accurate positioning and ground truth of static and dynamically moving objects. Various targets (EuroNCAP compliant) are also available.
