Drones, data, dialogue: Research meets politics

How can new technologies be utilised sensibly for the region? Representatives from Ingolstadt's state and local government explored this question during a visit to the campus of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI). Professor Gerhard Elsbacher, Head of the Technology Transfer Centre (TTZ) Unmanned Aerial Systems in Manching, and Dr Christian Lösel, Managing Director of the AI mobility node AImotion Bavaria, provided insights into current research.

The focus was on autonomous drone systems, AI-supported mobility concepts, and the digitalisation of production. A drone demonstration in the laboratory provided a practical demonstration of what is being worked on in the region, and was met with great interest by the guests. Alfred Grob, member of the state parliament, and Ingolstadt city councillors Fred Over, Thomas Deiser, Roland Meier, Franz Wöhrl, and Albert Wittmann were also present.

Professor Elsbacher emphasised the role of the TTZ as a link between science, industry, and start-ups, with partners such as Airbus, Fraunhofer, and brigkAir. Dr Lösel emphasised that AImotion Bavaria, with the support of Hightech Agenda Bayern, is working on bringing artificial intelligence to mobility solutions in the second and third dimensions - from autonomous driving to unmanned flight.

The exchange made it clear that the region not only generates ideas but also develops solutions with real future potential, in close cooperation with research and politics.
