The two online Meet-the-Expert events, held as part of the AMBER project, offered students and researchers from THI and the partner universities Al Akhawayn University (AUI) and the École Nationale d'Agriculture (ENA) in Morocco a compact and informative short training course on the basics of biogas. Under the expert guidance of Snow Leopard Projects GmbH and the Biogas Association, participants were introduced to the key fundamentals of the energy source biogas.
At the first event, Katharina Danner from Snow Leopard Projects GmbH presented various underutilized materials as feedstocks in biogas plants. In particular, she drew a comparison with conventional materials and highlighted the advantages and disadvantages. She also discussed the technical adaptations required to use these alternative feedstocks.
The second online Meet-the-Expert event, organised by Marc Reinhard and Frank Hofmann, began with an introduction to the German Biogas Association and an overview of the development of biogas in Germany. This context provided a valuable foundation for the subsequent seminar, which continued with a clear explanation of the fundamentals of biogas technology. The Moroccan students were particularly interested in the underlying chemical processes, which aligned closely with their field of study. Based on their questions, the speakers delved into more detail, allowing the participants to deepen their theoretical understanding.
The events took place online due to the international context and were organised and implemented as part of the DAAD-funded AMBER project. The initiative aims to qualify the teaching staff professionally and didactically at the partner universities - AUI and ENA - in the field of biogas energy, in addition to the development of practically relevant curricula or teaching modules in this subject area, carried out in cooperation with these universities.
We would like to thank all participants and especially Mrs Katharina Danner, Mr Marc Reinhard and Mr Frank Hofmann for the informative presentations and sharing of their expertise.
