International Management (B. A.)

Application period for the winter semester 2025/26: 2 May to 31 August

The Bachelor's degree program in International Management (B. A.) at THI Business School offers a comprehensive business education with a strong international focus. As part of the International Management degree program, students acquire knowledge in digital business, national and international accounting, cost accounting and cost management as well as operations management in addition to the basics of international management. Students can also specialize in various management functions, including marketing and sales, digital business, controlling and finance.

In addition to business management topics, the course also includes learning a foreign language (Chinese, French or Spanish) and acquiring intercultural skills, e.g. as part of Strategic and Crosscultural Management.

In addition, the International Management degree program includes a compulsory study abroad and a compulsory internship abroad, each lasting one semester, and offers guest lectures, excursions and student projects. Special modules on personal development strengthen self-reflection and social skills.

Our International Management degree program prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities in Germany and abroad, in corporations or SMEs. This Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) can also be studied as a dual degree and offers a double degree program.

Structure

1st - 3rd Semester

Practical relevance is very important to us. That is why your International Management studies begin with an introductory week including an analysis of an international company in teamwork.

In the first part of your studies, you will learn the basics of business administration and economics as well as the fundamentals of international management based on the latest scientific findings. This includes, for example, quantitative methods, cost accounting and cost management, bookkeeping and accounting as well as personnel management and marketing.

Some of the lectures are held in English. This allows you to improve your English language skills, which is important in an international context. In addition, you will learn another foreign language (Chinese, French or Spanish) and thus expand your language skills. The specialist modules are accompanied by a seminar on personal development.

4th - 7th Semester

From the fourth semester onwards, you will deepen your specialist knowledge in international management and acquire relevant leadership knowledge and skills in the context of strategic and cross-cultural management. You will also deepen your knowledge of your chosen foreign language. You choose one of seven specializations and work on current topics in small groups directly with the professors.
In addition to further fundamentals such as law, CSR and sustainability, you can acquire professional, social and sustainability skills in four elective subjects such as business start-up and coaching for business start-ups, social skills in communication and negotiation or sustainability management.

One semester of theory is spent at a university abroad. THI offers around 160 cooperation partner universities.

The theory semester is followed by the practical semester, which must be completed in a company abroad.

With the final Bachelor's thesis, you will earn the academic title Bachelor of Arts. This gives you the opportunity to start your career directly or to specialize further as part of a Master's degree.

Approximately half of the courses are in English or in an additional foreign language.

Testimonials

Ariane Engelbrecht, Student

“The international approach in this study program allows us to get an insight in how multinational companies cooperate. Being able to learn a third language and spending a total of one year abroad further facilitates the foundation of working with different cultures thus preparing the student to work from anywhere in the world.”

Emma Kubat, Student

“I chose the International Management degree course at Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences because it offers an excellent combination of business management expertise and an international focus. The practical training and the opportunity to gain intercultural experience during semesters abroad particularly appealed to me. What I particularly enjoy about my degree course is the diversity of the course content. From intercultural management and global marketing to international financial strategies, I gain a comprehensive insight into the challenges of the global economy. The practice-oriented projects and close links with companies enable me to put my theoretical knowledge directly into practice.”

Jaqueline Hacker, Student

“I decided to study International Management at THI because I wanted to combine my passion for travel and other cultures with a degree in business administration. The THI's program was therefore perfectly matched to my expectations. I find the practical lectures and the opportunity to gain an insight into areas that I find fascinating thanks to my specialization particularly enriching. What makes this degree program unique for me is the opportunity to spend two semesters abroad. These experiences are priceless and also look good on my CV. I can recommend the course to anyone who is open-minded, wants to think beyond national borders and wants to develop not only professionally but also personally.”

Lea Stieglauer, Student

"A semester abroad in Kuala Lumpur... are you sure?
..... That was exactly the answer I got from most of the people I told about my plans.
In fact, I've been here for almost 2 months now. And I can only say: Be brave and open to everything that comes! It has been the best decision!
Not only has Taylor's University shown me completely different possibilities and new ways of learning and teaching at a university in Asia, but it has also helped me personally. The cultural impressions you are confronted with in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia are quite diverse. From Indian to traditional Malaysian to Chinese. The many encounters and experiences have given me the opportunity to see cultures, people, working methods and systems from many different angles. I can't wait to discover more impressions and experiences in this incredibly diverse country."

Quick Info

Admission and application

The International Management program starts in the winter term. Application via Hochschulstart (DOSV) is not necessary.
Registration for the study program starts on May 2 for the winter semester. Online application is possible via the Primuss applicant portal of THI.

Find more details about the application process at THI here.

Applicants must be fluent in Germand and English (at least level B2): More information on Proof of language skills.

Here you will find specific information about the application process and for admission to the undergraduate degree programme International Management.

Admission requirements for international students:

Anyone with an international university degree/higher education qualification wanting to study at a university in Germany needs a so-called Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB), or higher education entrance qualification. This lets applicants show that their educational background or professional qualification allows them to study in Germany, i.e. they have the necessary higher education entrance qualification to register for a course.

The recognition of the qualification is linked to certain requirements. If the certificate of education is recognised as a higher education entrance qualification in Germany, the international student may apply for all courses (general qualification) or for certain courses (subject-specific qualification). Two to three semesters of study in the home country may be recognised as a higher education entrance qualification in Germany, depending on the country of origin. Dubious Application Agencies

Currently, THI is receiving an increasing amount of information regarding fraudulent activities in connection with student applications to THI. Therefore, it is important for you to know the following:

  1. THI does not work with agencies. Please apply directly to THI via the Primuss application portal.
  2. THI never asks for money via agencies for application purposes.
  3. THI only sends emails from @thi.de.
  4. THI never asks for money before you receive your admission letter. If you need a VPD from uni-assist, you will have to pay a processing fee to uni-assist. However, uni-assist only checks certain documents and does not grant admission to THI.
  5. The application process is conducted in the THI Primuss portal. Only there will you be able to access your application progress.
International

The International Management programme gives an attractive international orientation for students because they are expected to study in two world market regions (e.g. Europe and Asia). A compulsory theoretical semester abroad at a partner university and a 20-week practical semester abroad must be completed at an international company are integral part of the programme. It is advised to follow the study plan. The students are supported by the THI International Office and Career Service.

A special opportunity is the Double Degree. You study for at least one year at one of our partner universities in Scotland or Australia. After successfully completing your studies, you receive a double degree. For more information regarding the double degree contact our International Office.

Dual studies or studies with in-depth practical

The dual studies programme enables a combination of practical training elements in a company with the theoretical education provided by the university. There is a choice of either the joint model (academic study + vocational training) or the degree course with vocational experience (academic study + intense practical phases). There is an obvious advantage to students here: practically oriented academic study generally enables a particularly smooth transition from university to the world of work. What is more, the student usually receives financial remuneration from the company concerned.

In the joint model, students may start working at the company several months before the start of the first semester, depending on the company concerned. At the start of the course there is an alternation between theory (during the semester) and practical experience (between semesters and during the practical semesters). In order to embark on a dual studies programme, students have to apply to both a company and to THI (be sure to take note of company application deadlines!). See here for details of partner companies.

More info on our dual studies-pages, or check dual cooperation partner companies. Even if no partner company is currently active in this degree programme, you are welcome to contact us.

FAQs

Why International Management?

The Bachelor's degree course in International Management offers a comprehensive business education with a strong international focus. In addition to business subjects, the course also includes learning a foreign language (Chinese, French or Spanish), a one-semester study abroad program and a one-semester internship abroad.

What is the difference to the Global Economics and Business Management course?

While Global Economics and Business Management (GBM) focuses on economic issues in the global economy and general management skills, International Management (IG) focuses on business management issues in an international context. This results in different job profiles. IG students choose a business management specialization and can choose from eight different business management specializations. GBM students choose two specializations (one at THI and one during their studies abroad).

When is the choice of foreign language made?

The choice of foreign language (Chinese, French or Spanish) is made during the so-called introductory week (the first week of October).

Is prior knowledge required for Chinese/French/Spanish?

No previous knowledge is required for Chinese and Spanish. For French, language skills at level A1 are required.

What opportunities are there to study International Management on a dual study program?

You can find information on dual studies in International Management in the module handbook on the right-hand side of this page: Module handbook German (p. 9).

You can find a list of THI Business School's dual partners at the following link: https://www.thi.de/thi-business-school/duales-studium/dualpartner-der-thi-business-school/

You can also activate a company partner on your own initiative. Our Leitfaden zur Unternehmenssuche can help you with this: https://www.thi.de/fileadmin/daten/careerservice/dualesstudium/20200707_Leitfaden_zur_Unternehmenspartnersuche.pdf

Is it possible to receive credits for competences/subjects earned during a previous vocational training?

Yes, in general it is possible. Please contact the program director at the beginning of your studies to check if it is possible in your case.

What is the number of courses offered in German/English?

A little more than half of the courses are offered in English.

Is it possible to take all the courses either only in German or only in English?

No, unfortunately that is not possible because some courses are offered only in German and other courses are offered only in English.

Is it possible to attend university courses while still attending school?

Yes, pupils with very good grades have the possibility to start with the so called “Schülerstudium”. Find more information about the Schülerstudium here.
