Marketing / Sales / Media (M. A.)

[Translate to English:] Application period for the winter semester 2025/26: 2 May to 15 July

Tomorrow's brand makers and future junior managers will find the Marketing/Sales/Media (M. A.) degree program unique in southern Germany. This Marketing Master's program attracts students with excellent career prospects and high application rates.

Our marketing degree program prepares graduates of a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on marketing or a media degree program for specialist and management roles in the fields of marketing, sales and media. We qualify our students for marketing in a digital world, including digital marketing, email marketing, influencer marketing and media design.

Our approach is scientifically sound and practice-oriented. We no longer differentiate between traditional and digital marketing. Instead, we prepare our students for marketing in a digital world.

The degree program offers a specialization in marketing and sales and also covers content from communication and media management. We impart both strategic and operational knowledge about these customer-oriented areas of corporate value creation, including digital commerce, social media, customer behavior and customer management. Of course, we also address the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in almost all courses and teach skills in dealing with this forward-looking technology. Immerse yourself in the world of augmented and virtual reality in the Extended Reality elective.

Our graduates benefit from practice-oriented further training in marketing and are ready for a career in marketing and sales. Most of the courses on the degree program are taught in German and some in English.

The Marketing/Sales/Media Master's program includes two full-time semesters. The third semester consists of writing the Master's thesis and carrying out the Master's project.
In terms of content, the course is divided into the subject areas of marketing, strategic sales management and media. Many of the individual modules are accompanied by practical projects. You can see the individual modules in the diagram.

Admission and application

Evidence of the following qualifications has to be provided for admission to the master’s degree course in Marketing, Sales and Media (German abbreviation: MVM):

  • An economics or media-oriented bachelor’s degree from a German university with at least 210 ECTS credit points or an equivalent qualification from a university in Germany or abroad. A certificate must be submitted as proof. The Examination Commission decides on equivalence. Equivalence requires there to be no essential difference between the knowledge/skills acquired and the content of a business or media-oriented bachelor's degree at THI.
  • Applicants must pass a selection procedure (only available in German) for the master's degree course in Marketing, Sales and Media.
  • Please note: Your admission cannot be reviewed until all application documents have been submitted. It is not possible to make a definitive statement without looking at the certificates first. We cannot provide advance information regarding your chances of admission by e-mail or telephone.

NOTE on 180 ECTS:

Can I apply even if I have obtained less than 210 ECT (normally 180 ECTS) in my previous bachelor’s degree?

It is possible to apply for the MVM master’s degree with less than 210 ECTS; however, proof of compensation of the missing 30 ECTS has to be provided no later than the end of the application period by means of:

  • proof of practical experience outside the degree course which corresponds to the practical semester of a bachelor’s degree in economics or a media-related subject in terms of content and scope
  • or
  • proof of practical or theoretical study and examinations taken at a German or foreign university in addition to the student’s first degree which corresponds in content and scope to the demands of a bachelor's degree in economics or a media-related subject.

NOTE: Please note that where documents are submitted to show evidence of practical professional experience or either practical or theoretical achievements worth 30 ECTS – in addition to a bachelor’s degree – the documents must clearly indicate that the 30 ECTS were obtain over and above the bachelor's degree programme. Confirmation can be provided by the university showing that the ECTS/internship were not counted towards the first degree. The duration of the practical professional experience gained outside the first degree should be equivalent to 20 weeks of full-time work. Furthermore, the internship reference must be submitted in officially certified form together with the other application documents. In both cases, we recommend to submit meaningful documents from which the Examination Committee can clearly understand the substantive aspects immediately.

Job profiles

The skills acquired in the Marketing, Sales and Media master’s degree programme enable graduates to take on positions as qualified specialists and executives in the area of marketing and sales at an industrial or service company as well as in the media industry/at a marketing and media agency.
Graduates are provided with the broad basis required by the sales/marketing director of a company or by the managing director of a marketing or media agency.

How and when can I apply?

Information relating to application

Application period:

For the winter semester: 02 May to 15 July

Students who have applied previously are not at any advantage or disadvantage.

What documents do I have to submit with my application?

A full list of documents is provided in the application tool.
Here you will also find detailed requirements in terms of the form in which the documents have to be submitted. All documents initially have to be uploaded online.
In the event of admission to the master's degree course, certain documents then have to be submitted as an original or as a certified copy.
 

Can the bachelor’s degree certificate be submitted at a later stage?

The bachelor’s degree certificate can be submitted later provided evidence is submitted before the regular application deadline that the applicant will complete their first degree course at the end of the current semester with 210 ECTS points. This is done by uploading a recent transcript of records and proof of the final ECTS credits earned upon graduation (for example, excerpt study and examination regulation). Whatever happens, the final certificate or confirmation of successful completion of the first degree must be submitted no later than at matriculation.

Are waiting semesters counted in connection with the master’s programme?

Waiting semesters are not counted in connection with an application to a master's degree course. Students who have applied previously are not at any advantage or disadvantage.

Can the master’s programme be taken on a part-time basis?

In general, it is possible to have a part-time job while studying. However, please be sure to consider the significant workload that this involves: all master’s courses require preparation and follow-up, and there will be several project assignments during the semester.
