The THI campus is located in the centre of Ingolstadt. Within a few minutes' walk, the pedestrian zone and the historic old town can be reached, in addition to the Danube, Klenzepark and Hindenburgpark. The centrally located buildings and premises on the esplanade make THI a classic campus university.

In 1999, the current campus on the Esplanade was opened, and in 2011 work began on the university extension to make room for the growing number of students. In autumn 2014, the two new buildings for lecture halls and seminar rooms, laboratories and offices as well as a modern, spacious cafeteria were ready for occupation. Two years later, the CARISSMA research and test centre was put into operation.

Further locations

In addition to the main campus on the Esplanade, the university is now also represented at other locations in Ingolstadt. All premises are within walking distance.

The Institute for Academic Further Education (IAW), re-labelled THI Campus for Lifelong Learning in 2024, has been housed in the Villa Heydeck in the immediate vicinity of the central campus since 2017. The Doctoral School is located on Paradeplatz, as are the Language Centre, the International Office and the AUDI Confucius Institute Ingolstadt. The Donaukurier building in Stauffenbergstraße currently serves as interim accommodation for the two research institutes InES and IIMo. In the east of the city, close to Ingolstadt Village, is the CARISSMA open-air test area.

Campus past and future

The campus area stands for an eventful past. Even today, there are still many testimonies of the Bavarian state fortress, which was built to the right and left of the Danube. At the end of the 19th century, the Royal Gun Foundry and the Royal Main Laboratory were built here. Until the end of the 20th century, the site was used as a production site for spinning machines as well as cast and stacked fittings.

And there will also be a lot happening on the site in the future. Work is currently underway to complete the Museum of Concrete Art and Design, while the Maritim Hotel plus Congress Centre complex have opened their doors in the immediate vicinity in 2023. The restoration of the historic "Kavalier Dalwigk" fortress building has been completed. It is home to the digital start-up centre brigk, with which THI is closely linked in terms of start-up support. THI itself will also continue to grow structurally. In addition to Building J, a new modular building that houses laboratories, seminar rooms and offices, the university is already represented in Building K with premises for the Faculty of Computer Science and our AImotion AI centre. The so-called "digital building" between Building G and Kavalier Dalwigk will consolidate the expansion of the campus areas with a state-of-the-art building that will house digital teaching, laboratories and offices.

Campus Neuburg: Our satellite in the region since 2021

The THI has been active in Neuburg an der Donau for several years. At the end of 2016, a research branch of the Institute for New Energy Systems was initially set up in the historic city centre. Since autumn 2021, THI has been represented with the reopening of the Neuburg campus on a growing site with historic barracks buildings and modern new buildings in the immediate vicinity of the old town. This is where the ForTraNN Institute conducts research into sustainability and where the Faculty of Sustainable Infrastructure is based, offering degree programmes in the fields of construction/energy/environment/sustainability.
