The C-ECOS group at CARISSMA, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, contributed to the successful demonstration of the HYPOBATT project in Norddeich, Germany.
The HYPOBATT (Hyper Powered Vessel Battery Charging System) project recently marked an important milestone with its final public demonstration in Norddeich, Germany. The project successfully showcased a multi-megawatt fast-charging system for electric ferries, demonstrating that high-power charging infrastructure can support demanding maritime operations while contributing to the reduction of emissions in European ports.
Within the consortium, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) served as the dissemination and communication partner, supporting stakeholder engagement and promoting the project’s results across the European research and maritime communities.
Dr. Yash Kotak, Technical Head of C-ECOS, attended the demonstration in Norddeich to represent THI and present the THI’s contribution. The project activities at THI were operationally coordinated by Dr. Philipp Lang, with support from Dr. Yash Kotak, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Schweiger, whose guidance and expertise contributed to the team’s successful involvement in the project.
Funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the Horizon Europe programme, HYPOBATT brought together 18 partners from ten European countries to develop scalable charging solutions for electric vessels. The successful demonstration highlights the strong collaboration between industry and research institutions working toward a more sustainable maritime future.
Following the successful demonstration in Norddeich, project partners are now evaluating and consolidating the system’s performance data. These findings will support the future deployment of scalable fast-charging solutions across European ports, helping accelerate the transition toward low-emission maritime transport.
