Architecture (in German) (B. Eng.)

Junge Frau bastelt an Architekturmodell aus HolzSecure your place now for the October intake!

→ Application for a start of studies in winter term is open until Aug. 31!

Is ‘beautiful’ really enough?

Good architecture inspires. Even better architecture brings about change.

We face major challenges: climate change, resource scarcity and the question of how we want to live in the future. Buildings and cities play a central role in this.

On the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at THI, you will learn to design spaces, buildings and places that do more than just look good. You’ll develop creative designs, work with innovative materials and explore sustainable solutions for the built environment.

Right from the start, you’ll combine design and construction with a sense of responsibility towards people, society and the environment. In project-based studios, you’ll develop your own ideas, work as part of a team and learn how a vision becomes a built reality.

Because the future needs more than just beautiful buildings. It needs better ones.

Just being beautiful isn’t enough. That’s why you’ll learn more with us.

Architecture requires creativity. But it also demands technical expertise, an understanding of society and sustainable solutions.

During your degree, you’ll bring all these perspectives together. You’ll develop buildings, spaces and concepts that inspire people whilst also taking responsibility for the environment and society.

Key areas of study include:

  • Design & Building Theory
  • Sustainable Building Construction & Building Materials
  • Urban Planning & Spatial Sociology
  • Digital Planning Tools
  • Practical Projects & Interdisciplinary Studios

From the 4th semester onwards, you can choose your own specialisation:

  • Sociology – People, City and Society
  • Sustainable Building – Climate-friendly and Future-proof Architecture

For everyone who wants to take architecture a step further.

What makes the architecture degree programme in Neuburg so special?

Programme Director Prof. Daniela Bergmann

‘What I particularly appreciate is that students from Germany and all over the world study together on the green campus in Neuburg. From the fourth semester onwards, the Architecture and Architektur degree programmes are taught jointly – with students working together on projects in the studio. This benefits both sides: German and international students alike. Currently, this includes students from Venezuela, the USA, Myanmar, Morocco, Luxembourg and the Ivory Coast.’

Quick Info

Admission and application

In the Architecture (B. Eng., German-language) programme, it is possible to start your studies only in winter semester.

As the programme is not subject to admission restrictions, applications must be submitted exclusively via the PRIMUSS application portal THI. Registration with DOSV/hochschulstart is therefore not necessary.

Application deadlines
Information on the application period and on the application process can be found on the page ‘Applying for a place on a Bachelor's programme’.

Would you like to study architecture? In addition to your university entrance qualification, you will also need to demonstrate your creative aptitude. To do this, you will go through a two-stage process:

  1. Online application: A digital application portfolio (maximum 10 pages) containing
    1. three independently produced, separate work samples and
    2. a declaration that the submitted work samples were created independently.
  2. We will review and evaluate your portfolio. If you pass, you will be admitted to the programme. There is no oral exam.

There is no pre-study internship.

Start Architecture B. Eng. (German): Winter semester 2026/27

Students learn to approach architecture holistically and to develop sustainable solutions for the built environment.

What role does sustainability play in university studies?

Sustainability is not a side issue, but a central component of the degree programme. You will explore sustainable building materials, resource-efficient designs, the adaptation of existing buildings, and the impact of architecture on the environment and society.

Why should I study architecture at THI?

Because you will learn future-orientated architecture here - with strong practical relevance, innovative projects and international perspectives.

What are the requirements for studying architecture? Do I have to be creative?

You’ll need a university entrance qualification and must pass an aptitude test – creativity, curiosity and an interest in design are essential. During your degree, you’ll learn various analogue and digital methods for developing and presenting ideas. These include sketching, model-making and digital design tools.

What career prospects will I have after completing my degree?

Graduates can pursue careers in, amongst other things, architecture and planning firms, in the field of sustainable construction, in urban and regional planning, in project management or in public institutions. The Bachelor’s degree programme also lays the foundation for further Master’s degree programmes.

Is the architecture degree programme at THI practice-oriented?

Project work and design studios form an important part of the degree programme. You will work on real-world assignments and develop your own solutions to current architectural and societal challenges.

What is the difference to the traditional architecture degree programme?

Sustainability takes centre stage for us - combined with digital tools and modern topics such as social sustainability and green building.

Is there a connection to the English-language degree programme ‘Architecture’?

Starting in the 4th semester, German-speaking and international students enrolled in the primarily English-language Bachelor's programme in Architecture study together! In the higher semesters, modules are mainly taught in German, but some are also taught in English. English-language courses prepare students for a global working environment, while German-language content places greater emphasis on local industry relevance. This model increases the university's appeal to a diverse student body.

Why study architecture with a focus on sustainability?

The construction and property sector faces major challenges: climate change, resource scarcity and the transformation of existing buildings call for new approaches. A degree in architecture with a focus on sustainability equips students with the skills to design buildings and cities that are fit for the future, resource-efficient and socially responsible.

Can I choose my own areas of specialisation whilst I’m still studying?

Yes. From the 4th semester onwards, you can choose individual specialisations. At present, the specialisations on offer are Sociology and Sustainable Construction.

What is the study routine like?

The degree programme is structured around projects. You will work on many tasks in teams and regularly present your designs in so-called reviews or presentations. This enables you to develop not only specialist knowledge, but also communication and teamwork skills.

Who is a degree in architecture suitable for?

For anyone who thinks creatively, enjoys designing and is interested in the future of our cities, buildings and living spaces. This degree programme is particularly well suited to those who wish to combine design, technology, sustainability and social issues.
