Biomechanics (B. Eng.)

Application period for the winter semester 2027/28: May 2 to July 15, 2027

→ Do you have questions about the biomechanics program? Then feel free to contact the program director directly by email at joerg.kessler@thi.de.

How do you use biomechanics to support athletes and competitive sportspeople?

Do you want to understand how high-tech prosthetics are developed or how exoskeletons work? Then the Bachelor’s degree programme in Biomechanics at THI is the right choice for you. The programme combines the fundamentals of engineering with cutting-edge knowledge from the fields of human, sports and rehabilitation technology.
In the first stage of the programme, you’ll be equipped with all the essentials of engineering: mathematics, mechanics, design, materials science, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. These will prepare you for the exciting fields of application.
In the second stage, you’ll really delve into biomechanics – covering areas such as human-machine interaction, as well as sports and rehabilitation technology. The specialisations range from smart motion analysis and Paralympic sports equipment to high-performance sport. These are all topics that really make a difference.

Your career prospects are just as varied as the degree programme itself. Fields such as product design and development, production and project management are open to you. You’ll be in demand wherever technology and people need to work together seamlessly.

Bionics

Our society is ageing, but young people are also often temporarily or permanently dependent on assistive aids for mobility or mobilisation. There has been an incredible surge of innovation in rehabilitation technology in recent decades - and this is far from over with the latest material technology and lightweight construction. This is where bionics meets biomechanics.

High performance sport

The development of state-of-the-art sports equipment requires knowledge of material and product design as well as anatomy and ergonomics!

Paralympics sports equipment

Individual needs, individual solutions - in the high-performance sector, but of course also with applications in popular sports.

Human-machine interaction

Exoskeletons are no longer just something for science fiction films, they support craftsmen or people in caring professions and can reduce the strain caused by heavy lifting, for example. Human-machine interaction means designing products with the human body in mind. In other words, "form follows function" in the classic sense!
