Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) opens Green Office with versatile Opening Week

THI is combining the opening of its new Green Office with a multifaceted Opening Week centred around sustainability, innovation, and social commitment. From the 20th to the 22nd of May, events such as the lecture series "Energy - Environment - Sustainability", a Repair Café, regulars' tables, the networking format "Founders Unfiltered," and the "Schanzer Climate Slam" are on the programme on campus.

THI is launching its new Green Office with a diverse Opening Week centred on sustainability, innovation and science communication. Highlights include the lecture series Energy – Environment – Sustainability and the Schanzer Climate Slam (symbolic image: AI-generated).

A central highlight is the lecture series "Energy - Environment - Sustainability" on Wednesday, the 20th of May. The official opening of the Green Office at 6.30 pm in the auditorium will be followed by an international guest lecture by Professor Franciele Weschenfelder from the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC).

In her lecture "Uruguay's Energy Transition: From 99% Renewables to the Next Energy Frontier", the scientist will provide insights into Uruguay's successful energy transition. The South American country is now regarded as an international pioneer in renewable energies: around 99 per cent of its electricity comes from sources such as wind power, hydropower, solar energy, and biomass.

The presentation will show how Uruguay has implemented this transformation in just a few decades and what the next steps are - such as the decarbonisation of transport and industry and the development of a green hydrogen economy. In addition to current research projects, opportunities and challenges for a sustainable energy future will also be discussed.

The event is part of the lecture series "Energy - Environment - Sustainability", which will once again bring together experts from science and practice at THI in the summer semester of 2026. The series is organised by Professor Sabine Bschorer. The event will take place in the THI auditorium and will be broadcast online in parallel. Admission is free; registration is not required. There will be an opportunity for discussion afterwards. Further information can be found at: www.thi.de/go/ringvorlesung-umwelt.

The Opening Week starts on Wednesday, the 20th of May, with a Repair Café from 12.30 to 14.30 in room G010, a regulars' table of the Green Office Neuburg from 12.35 to 13.10 in CN001, a regulars' table of the Green Office Ingolstadt from 14.30 to 15 in the Start-up Center, and the networking format "Founders Unfiltered" from 17 to 18.30, also in the Start-up Center.

The "Schanzer Climate Slam" on Friday, the 22nd of May, will also be a creative focus of the Opening Week. For the fifth time, the audience will decide on the best contribution to climate and sustainability. Both poetry slams and lectures with a sustainability focus will be presented. The programme will be complemented by a musical performance by saxophonist David Clark. The event starts at 5.30 pm in the THI's Neue Aula. Free tickets can be reserved in advance, and there will also be a free box office.
