Christian Hanzl presents his findings to an expert audience

From November 25 to 28, 2025, we took part in the 2025 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo, Asia-Pacific (ITEC-AP) in Singapore. Our doctoral student Christian Hanzl presented his findings on the topic of “Closed-Form Modeling of MOSFET Switching Losses Including Variable Gate-Drain Capacitance and Zero-Voltage Switching.” The content was as follows: To evaluate power electronic systems in long simulations—for example, in driving cycles—a switching loss model is needed that is both accurate and computationally efficient.
That's exactly where we came in.

Our new analytical model takes into account two often neglected effects:

  • voltage-dependent gate-drain capacitance
  • and du/dt-induced false turn-on events after the reverse recovery phase

Both can be represented using closed formulas. This allows switching energies to be calculated quickly and reliably. In addition, we offer another model for the synchronous rectifier MOSFET in zero-voltage switching (ZVS), which describes the physical switching behavior in a compact and applicable way. The laboratory results confirm that our approach surpasses other closed models from the literature in terms of accuracy – while remaining efficient.

The more than 230 participants were offered a lot at the conference. The first evening featured a welcome reception and a get-together. Day two was filled with opening remarks, keynote speakers, and tutorials. The following day, the accepted papers and posters were presented. The participants ended the evening with a banquet. On the last day of the conference, laboratory tours were offered.

We will remember the interesting discussions, exciting presentations, and an exciting city.
