Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) wins DAAD funding for international students

THI is receiving 730,000 euros in funding for this. The focus is on a project that aims to attract outstanding international Master's students and doctoral candidates from Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia to Germany as a centre for AI and systematically prepare them for careers in science and industry. It is based on the many years of expertise, regional networks, and partnerships of the THI Latin America Centre.

The core of the project is an integrated package of measures along the acquisition, onboarding, and career phases. Activities are planned both in Latin America and at THI - including summer and winter schools in the field of Artificial Intelligence, which support the professional entry. Another component is the development of an honours degree as an additional qualification for particularly high-performing international Master's students. "We are bundling our international activities in a targeted manner to reach and qualify students at an early stage and attract them to Germany as a science and business location in the long term," says Professor Christian Sturm, project manager at THI.

The funding runs from May 2026 to the end of 2029 and is part of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space's "1,000 Heads Plus Programme" with a total volume of around 15 million euros.

THI is thus further expanding its international orientation: Around 40 per cent of students come from abroad, the university maintains around 180 partnerships worldwide, and offers numerous English-language study courses. The aim is to integrate international students in a targeted manner and open up prospects for them on the German labour market.

The project strengthens THI's role in attracting highly qualified specialists in key future fields.
