In his habilitation thesis, entitled “Connected Mobility Systems and Autonomous Driving – Multi-Paradigm Simulation and Modeling”, Djanatliev explores the modelling and simulation of connected mobility systems and autonomous driving.
In this short interview, he reflects on what motivated him to pursue a habilitation and shares his plans for the future. He is expected to present his research to a wider audience at the Department of Computer Science Day next year.

What motivated you to pursue a habilitation?
During my doctorate, I further developed my great enthusiasm for teaching and research and wanted to continue along this path. The opportunity to further expand my existing methodology of hybrid simulation in healthcare research and transfer it to the field of connected mobility was particularly appealing. Hybrid simulation methods have found great acceptance within the research community and are increasingly being used in highly scalable models. The variability between simulation performance and accuracy can be leveraged even more effectively through suitable methods.
Another reason was the opportunity to establish a research group at the chair and work together with young, motivated people on exciting research questions, publications and projects. In addition, the conception and development of innovative teaching formats, as well as the support and supervision of students from the early stages of their studies through to doctoral level, were a key focus.
What are your plans for the future?
For the past two years, I have had the opportunity to continue my work as a Professor of Computer Science at THI. As programme director of the international degree programme “Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence”, I am able to contribute to the development of teaching while continuing my previous research activities. I also remain actively involved in the relevant professional and scientific forums.
