The TTZ was strongly represented at this year’s two-day ICCAS 2026 in Toulouse. Research Professor Simon Schwerd chaired the session “Neuroergonomics & Mental State Estimation.” In addition, researcher Diah Irawati presented her paper, “Natural Language-Guided Abstraction and Spatial Anchoring for UAV Voice User Interfaces,” introducing innovative voice-based interfaces for spatial drone guidance to an expert aviation and human factors audience.
This research introduces a new way to control UAVs using natural speech instead of complex, memorized commands. By combining flexible language understanding with a safety-checking, the UAV can accurately interpret instructions like "go behind the chair" while ensuring it avoids mistakes. In tests, this approach made flying significantly easier and less stressful for users without sacrificing performance or safety.
The conference is a premier event for the aerospace sector, highly regarded for its strong practical relevance and deep focus on cognitive systems.
